Schedule
Alternative activities are available for students not interested in a particular Fine Arts class.
Class Descriptions:
Dance
Students will learn various styles and grow in dance steps, skills, technique, and choreography.
Ballet- Skills include: 5 Ballet Positions of Feet/ Arms, Releve, Plie,
Barre Work (tendu, battements), Turns, Jumps, Kicks
Jazz- Turns, Kicks, Jumps, Rhythm, Moving Steps
Hip- Hop/ Breakdancing- Fundamentals, Isolations, Floor Work
Tumbling
Students will grow in large motor movements.
Skills include- Balance, Flexibility, Jumps, Cartwheels, Handstands, Rolls, Bridges, Backbends
Art
Students will enjoy learning and experimenting with various mediums including: drawing, painting, watercolors, and pastels. We will enjoy art themes throughout the school year.
Art History: Students will also learn about various afrtists and famous pieces of artwork.
Music
In this class, we will learn elements of music such as melody, harmony, rhythm, tempo, solfege (Do Re Mi), and musical notes.
Children will get a chance to grow in their skills of playing or learning to play piano. We will also get the opportunity to sing.
Piano/ Singing
Music History: We will study various composers and their famous music.
Drama
Students will be creating skits and plays with costumes.
We will learn how to project our voice and act.
These skills will help as children grow older and move into college and the workforce with more confidence in public speaking and managing emotions.
Language Arts: Literature, Poetry, Creative Writing
In this class, depending on student age, we will read and discuss great books and picture books.
We will study the elements of a story and discuss writing.
We will study story elements including: setting, characters, plot, climax, rising and falling action.
We will discuss and listen to various styles of poetry.
Students will get the opportunity to write their own poetry and stories.

What ages/grades can participate in the micro school?
Ages 4 years through 14. Students need to be potty trained.
What subjects are offered?

Do parents stay?
This is a drop-off program. We will have field trips that parents are encouraged to participate in.

Yes. We accept ESA funds and are an approved Class Wallet vendor under: Joyful Heart Dance
What are the costs?

Where will classes be held?
Classes are held at our home studio near 67th Ave and Bell Road in Glendale.
Who is the Tutor/ Instructor?
Amanda Kelley holds a degree from Arizona State University in Child Development. She has taught dance and tumbling for over 20 years to hundreds of students.
She has worked in various school settings, including public, private, charter, homeschool, homeschool co-ops, and preschools to share her joy of learning and teaching with her students.
Amanda has also been a classroom school teacher in the public school setting.
She holds a DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card.
What if my child is not interested in doing a class like Ballet?
There will be alternative activities for students not interested in a particular Fine Arts class.
Where are you located?
Our micro school is currently held at our home Dance Studio near Arrowhead area. Cross streets are 67th Ave & Bell Road in Glendale. We are near the 101 Freeway.
Do parents have to volunteer like at other co-ops?
Ours is a drop-off program. Parents do not have to volunteer or teach. There may be opportunities to volunteer such as at performances, but it is not mandatory. There will also be opportunities for field trips.
How long is the School Year?
Joyful Heart Fine Arts Micro School will follow a typical school schedule from August to May with breaks throughout the school year. Please see our calendar for breaks and dates.
What if my student is shy? Will this be a good fit?
Our environment will help shy children come out of their shell and blossom.
The cozy atmosphere of our home studio, smaller class sizes and consistent instruction from encouraging teachers will encourage children to grow their self-confidence.
We will encourage and not force children beyond their comfort level.
Amanda was a shy child, so she has compassion and insight into becoming more courageous and comfortable with sharing arts skills.
Is there Homework?
There is no homework in our program. We will suggest additional and supplemental study options.
Are there Grades?
We do not assign grades as part of our program. Parents are responsible for assigning grades. We provide a summary of the content and skills learned. You may include this in your transcripts/ school records.
How do we service a broad range of ages?
We believe that all children benefit from the presentation of higher-level content and all students learn from one another. Older students also get the opportunity to take on a leadership role.
What do students need to bring or wear?
Students should bring a labeled water bottle, a lunch, and snack.
Students should wear comfortable clothing that they can move in. Please no jeans or dresses during movement classes.
Students may bring a dance outfit or exercise clothes to change into.
Socks or dance shoes are required. Ballet shoes, Jazz shoes, or socks.
For tumbling, students will be barefoot.
What about lunch?
Parents provide lunch and a snack for their child. We may offer lunch and snack options for purchase in the future.
Will there be performances?
We will hold two performances. There will be a fall/winter and end of year performance. The performances will include music, art, dance, tumbling, and drama in our performances.
What about field trips or special events?
We will schedule optional field trips to places like the Phoenix Art Museum, the Musical Instrument Museum, etc. Parents will be invited to join us on these trips.

Tuition is due the first day of each month.
You may pay online through our secure portal.
A late fee of $25 is charged on the 5th of each month.
Payment required to secure your spot:
$75 Registration Fee
One month of tuition (pre-paying April’s tuition)
$75 Class Supply Fee
The registration fee is non-refundable.
Your deposit is one month’s tuition and will prepay tuition for the month of April.
August’s tuition payment covers both August and the following May since these months have two weeks of class.
March tuition is the final payment for the school year.

Health and Safety
Please keep children at home if:
Your student has a fever over 100°. Your student must remain at home until their temperature has returned to normal 98.6 for 24 hours without the use of medication.
Your student has a persistent cough, excessive discharge from the nose or eyes, a sore throat, earache, severe headache, or a general fever.
Your student is vomiting or experiencing diarrhea.
